Products
Geolopes are common sizes envelopes and stationery recycled from outdated government surplus topographic maps. The vintage maps were published by various U.S. and Canadian government mapping agencies. Maps like these are no longer physically produced, so they are unique and very special.

About Us
Geolopes began in the late 1980s with topographic cartographer Chris Ryan, who saw something others didn’t—beauty and possibility in the fine detail of U.S. Geological Survey maps. Over time, he sourced and preserved a remarkable inventory, first shared through print and later discovered by a loyal following online.
In 2025, that collection found new life. Indiana-based entrepreneur Kathy Carrier, a long-time admirer of Geolopes, partnered with Chris to carry the brand forward. The maps—and their story—were relocated from Amherst, Massachusetts to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where the next chapter began. As a family-owned business, Kathy and partner Ben MacDonald have taken a hands-on approach to thoughtfully reintroducing the brand, working alongside a trusted envelope manufacturer in Chicago.
Today, we continue working from that original inventory of U.S. topographical maps, transforming them into envelopes, stationery, and packaging materials that feel both familiar and unexpected. Each piece reflects the natural variation of the maps themselves—subtle, detailed, and entirely unique.
While we’re equipped to produce at scale, our focus remains the same: well-made paper goods, consistent quality, and a product that stands apart without trying too hard.
